municipal bonds

This week (May 27 – June 3, 2011) saw more of news about the US government’s deficit battles. A quiet week ahead of the Memorial Day holiday. This may be a good time to adjust your asset allocation. The Week’s municipal bond news included:

  • MSRB ADOPTS DEALER ROLE-SWITCHING PROHIBITION TO ELIMINATE CONFLICT OF INTEREST IN MUNICIPAL SECURITIES UNDERWRITING – The msrb finally addressed a conflict of interest problem, where municipal securities dealers could act as a financial advisor on a new bond issue and underwrite it. (msrb.org)
  • Wisconsin Issuer Roils Muni Field – Conduit financing is one area that we avoid. Wisconsin is willing to help issue municipal bonds for other areas of the US, which could not get them issued themselves. Scary. (WSJ.com)
